A sad lack of jocund company

Bloomin' disaster at daffodil festival
For the first time in 40 years
 not a single daffodil has bloomed in time
 for Britains' biggest daffodil festival this weekend.
  More than 10,000 people usually visit
 the Hertfordshire village of Thriplow
 to admire its displays.

Yes, we have no daffodils.
I've yet to hear anyone quote Wordsworth.
Those green shoots are still stubbornly closed.

It's the middle of March, and the only daffodils to be found are the ones on my new teapot.

    There is a small stand of daffodils under an ancient oak in our back garden. They were here when we first moved in many years ago, and are always the first thing brave enough to venture forth in Springtime, normally making their golden appearance in February. This year, they have just now shown up. Everything is so late after such a cold winter.

    Our annual Easter Egg Hunt is next weekend. It's held in a garden full of fuschia azaleas. Usually. This year, it is still a garden of sticks!

    oh dear!!! bee - i'm watching the snow and ice recede from our gardens. no buds anywhere yet and certainly nothing as brave as a plant pushing its head through the earth's crust for a look-see. but england?!! ahhh bee, be patient. steven

    I still have 6 inches of snow all over my yard!! What daffodils? None here either!

    No, no sign of daffs here yet either although our snowdrops were out very early. The crocuses have just started....

    There was a long debate on radio 2 yesterday about the lack of daffs. It's a national disaster.

    My sister-in-law in Wales said there wasn't a daffodil open in time for St. David's day March 1st. But flowers on crockery will do for a couple weeks. The trees here are budding. There isn't a leaf to be seen on any of them yet but in ten days the green glow ought to be starting. I'm looking forward to forsythia. Before then, we're forecast snow on Saturday. :P

    Gorgeous teapot! I feel your pain as no daffodils have bloomed in Kansas or Missouri just yet, though we don't expect them really til the bitter end of March or into April. Sometimes they bloom in the snow here, which could happen this year given our forecast for the weekend. But it is sunny and 62 today--yahoo!

    Lovely word, jocund.

    You need to come to Portland, the City of Roses, where we also have daffodils and jasmine and rhododendron and KILLER wild flowers like beargrass and indian paintbrush.

    I expect you this summer. Don't disappoint me. I yearn for your jocund company.

    It's the much colder than average winter that we have had, I think. And now we've suddenly moved to a mild to Spring but with no greenery yet peaking out.

    Bad for spring but... good for business - if your business is selling gas.

    A characteristicaly occasional anti-romantic comment from Mr Drunken.

    I laughed over your pun title. How strange to have a late spring in England and in NYC, and an early spring in Maine. We don’t have any daffs either, but I’m celebrating the green shoots and lack of snow. It was 60 today! You have the right idea: tea will warm you up. Lovely teapot!
