Alice: trying to get back to her roots

The Rose: Just what species or, shall we say, genus are you, my dear?

Alice: Well, I guess you would call me... genus, humanus... Alice.

Queen of Hearts: Now, where do you come from?

Alice: Well, I'm trying to find my way home . . .

Alice: Oh, no, no. I was just hoping
that you could help me find my way.

Cheshire Cat: Well that depends on where you want to get to.

Daisy: What kind of a garden do you come from?

Alice: Oh, I don't come from any garden.
Daisy: Do you suppose she's a wildflower?

Alice: If I had a world of my own,
everything would be nonsense.
Nothing would be what it is
because everything would be what it isn't.
And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn't be,
and what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

Mad Hatter: Would you like a little more tea?

Alice: Well, I haven't had any yet, so I can't very well take more.
March Hare: Ah, you mean you can't very well take less.
Mad Hatter: Yes. You can always take more than nothing.

Alice's Shop

Cheshire Cat: If I were looking for a white rabbit,
I'd ask the Mad Hatter.

Alice: The Mad Hatter? Oh, no no no...

White Rabbit: I'm late / I'm late /
For a very important date.
/ No time to say "Hello." / Goodbye.
/ I'm late, I'm late, I'm late.

After transatlantic travel, and considerable delay,
Alice finally makes it from California to Oxford.

  1. Delightful!

"What do you know about this business?" the King said to Alice.
    "Nothing," said Alice.
    "Nothing whatever?" persisted the King.
    "Nothing whatever," said Alice.

  16. This was fun. I needed this today. I always think of Alice in the cooler months - never in summer. Summer doesn't seem cozy enough to include the Wonderland. Thanks for ringing in the new season with one of my favorite characters.

  19. This is GREAT! If you ask me the whole world has gone down the rabbit hole since the book was written. It's all absurdist theater, isn't it?

Thanks for making me smile, Bee!

  20. Alice is my all time favorite fictional character! I've always loved her. Could have something to do with the fact that when I was little, I thought it was called "Alyson Wonderland". It sort of sounds like that actually. I'm also very happy that the Disney movie kept a lot of lines from the book.

Have you seen that Tim Burton has a version of "Alice in Wonderland" coming out early next year? I can hardly wait because I adore Alice and I adore Burton.

Loved this post! So fun to read those lines again and the photos that went along were simply perfect.

  21. I am transfixed by Alice in Wonderland. It is the plotless wonder! A riddle within a riddle, and it has never been out of print. Cool that you found a new way to have such fun with such a memorable character!

  22. This is an absolute gem, Bee! Alice is one of my very favourite characters and this post is sheer delight! (ArtSpark is brilliant, too, isn't she?) Your clever photographs remind me of the tale of the Cottingley Fairies...I longed for it to be true, that fairies really do exist. Alas it was all the work of two very creative young ladies!

I've been catching up on all your posts - and what a delight it has been. Oh, and the next time you blog campers visit Stonehenge, do please come and visit me here at South Down for a meal and a bottle or three of the good grape!

I so enjoyed your post on miss potter as well, my favorite children's book writer of all time! very interesting how her life went in the end...I would imagine that having that much land in those days, for a woman, was unheard of, which makes me smile :)
